Polywell Introduces Nano-U16FL2V3: Fanless Computing with Intel Core Series 3

Polywell Computers is pleased to introduce the Nano-U16FL2V3, a new compact fanless mini PC powered by the latest Intel® Core™ Series 3 processors, formerly known as Wildcat Lake.

The new system expands Polywell’s portfolio of industrial and embedded computing platforms by combining modern processing technology, integrated AI acceleration, triple-display capability and extensive connectivity in a compact aluminum enclosure.

Designed for applications where space, power consumption, reliability and integration flexibility are important, the Nano-U16FL2V3 provides a versatile foundation for Edge AI, industrial automation, visual computing, intelligent kiosks and other specialized computing solutions.

Intel Core Series 3: Modern Processing with Integrated AI

At the heart of the Nano-U16FL2V3 is Intel’s new Core Series 3 architecture, manufactured using Intel 18A process technology.

The system is available with two processor options:

  • Intel® Coreâ„¢ 5 processor 320: 6 cores, maximum turbo frequency of 4.6 GHz, integrated Intel® Graphics delivering up to 20 TOPS and an NPU delivering up to 16 TOPS.
  • Intel® Coreâ„¢ 3 processor 304: 5 cores, maximum turbo frequency of 4.3 GHz, integrated Intel® Graphics delivering up to 9 TOPS and an NPU delivering up to 15 TOPS.

Both processors combine Performance-cores and Low Power Efficient-cores with integrated graphics and dedicated Neural Processing Unit (NPU) acceleration. Their 15 W processor base power makes them particularly relevant for compact systems where thermal efficiency is an important design consideration.

The integrated NPU provides a dedicated processing resource for supported AI inference workloads, potentially reducing the need to execute every AI task on the CPU or GPU. This is particularly valuable for edge applications requiring local processing of sensor information, images or other operational data.

Rather than relying entirely on cloud infrastructure, developers can incorporate compatible AI models directly into the edge system, helping reduce data transmission requirements and enabling more immediate local responses.

Actual AI performance and acceleration depend on the selected processor, software framework and application.

Fanless Design for Reliable Embedded Operation

The Nano-U16FL2V3 is housed in a compact fanless aluminum enclosure measuring just 193.9 × 127 × 57.2 mm.

By eliminating the system cooling fan, the design removes a moving component that would otherwise require maintenance and could introduce dust accumulation or mechanical wear. Passive cooling also makes the system suitable for installations where fan noise is undesirable.

The enclosure supports VESA, DIN-rail, wall and rackmount bracket options, allowing integrators to accommodate different installation requirements.

This combination of compact dimensions, passive cooling and flexible mounting makes the Nano-U16FL2V3 particularly attractive for equipment cabinets, industrial workstations, intelligent terminals and space-constrained edge installations.

Triple-Display Visual Computing

Despite its small dimensions, the Nano-U16FL2V3 offers substantial display connectivity through its integrated Intel graphics.

The system supports three display outputs:

  • Two HDMI® 2.0 interfaces supporting up to 4K resolution at 60 Hz
  • One DisplayPort 2.1 interface supporting up to 4K resolution at 60 Hz

This enables developers to build compact multi-display solutions for monitoring stations, operator terminals, industrial visualization, information systems and other applications requiring several screens.

The availability of three display interfaces can reduce the need for additional graphics hardware, simplifying system integration and helping preserve the advantages of a small-form-factor design.

Industrial Connectivity and Flexible Expansion

Modern embedded systems frequently need to communicate with equipment that uses different interface standards, including both current USB peripherals and legacy serial devices.

The Nano-U16FL2V3 addresses these requirements through a combination of contemporary and traditional connectivity:

  • Eight USB ports: four USB 3.0 and four USB 2.0 ports for peripheral equipment, sensors, controllers and other devices.
  • Two external DB9 RS-232 ports: direct connectivity for industrial equipment, POS peripherals and legacy devices without requiring external USB-to-serial converters.
  • Dual RJ45 LAN interfaces: support for wired network connectivity and application-defined separation of network connections.
  • Optional wireless connectivity: an M.2 2230 position for Wi-Fi/Bluetooth and an M.2 3042 B-Key position with SIM support for optional 4G/5G cellular connectivity.

This interface combination is especially useful for OEM developers and system integrators working with existing equipment and heterogeneous industrial environments.

The optional cellular capability also creates opportunities for installations where wired networking is unavailable or where a mobile communication channel is required.

Flexible Memory and Local Storage

The Nano-U16FL2V3 supports up to 64 GB of DDR5 memory through a single SO-DIMM socket, providing configuration flexibility for different application requirements.

Its storage architecture combines an M.2 2280 PCIe 4.0 x4 NVMe SSD position with an additional 2.5-inch SATA SSD/HDD position.

The ability to accommodate two storage devices allows developers to separate operating-system and application storage from operational data or configure additional local capacity for logging, multimedia content and edge analytics.

High-speed NVMe storage is particularly useful where applications require rapid access to local datasets, software components or AI models.

Applications Across Industrial and Edge Computing

The Nano-U16FL2V3 is designed to address a broad range of applications where compact dimensions, local processing and flexible connectivity are important:

  • Edge AI and intelligent IoT: local inference, sensor-data processing and AI-assisted monitoring.
  • Industrial automation: machine interfaces, supervisory terminals and equipment integration using serial and USB connectivity.
  • Smart retail and POS systems: compact transaction terminals, interactive kiosks and customer-facing computing platforms.
  • Visual computing: industrial dashboards, multi-screen monitoring stations and information displays.
  • Network appliances: compact gateways and specialized network applications using dual LAN connectivity.
  • Remote and distributed systems: edge installations requiring optional wireless or cellular communication.

Support for Windows 11, Windows IoT LTSC and Linux provides additional flexibility for developers selecting operating systems and application environments.

Advancing Polywell’s Embedded and Edge Computing Portfolio

The Nano-U16FL2V3 demonstrates Polywell’s continued commitment to incorporating new processor technologies into practical, application-focused computing platforms.

Its significance lies not simply in adopting Intel’s latest Core Series 3 architecture, but in combining that architecture with fanless construction, integrated AI capabilities, multiple display interfaces, legacy industrial connectivity and flexible storage.

This approach reflects Polywell’s broader engineering strategy: developing compact computing systems that bridge modern processing technologies and the practical requirements of industrial, commercial and embedded applications.

As demand for intelligent edge computing continues to evolve, Polywell is expanding its range of platforms that allow OEMs and system integrators to implement modern computing and AI capabilities without abandoning the interfaces and deployment flexibility their applications require.
